Protection vs. Insurance
SquatchRV is working to build a safer camper rental experience for renters and hosts. Insurance and protection details may vary by rental type, location, insurance partner, and booking details.
Coming Soon: SquatchRV is developing additional protection options for future rentals. These options are not currently available. At this time, renters and camper owners are responsible for confirming any insurance coverage they wish to rely upon directly with their own insurance providers.
Important: Coverage is not active unless clearly shown during checkout or confirmed by SquatchRV's approved insurance or protection partner. Do not assume coverage applies to any rental unless it is explicitly confirmed.
Loss Damage Waiver — Not Insurance
SquatchRV does not sell insurance. Our protection option is a Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) — a contractual modification of liability that caps a renter’s out-of-pocket responsibility for accidental physical damage to a camper during an approved rental. In exchange for a non-refundable Protection Plan Fee, SquatchRV waives its right to collect up to a set dollar amount of verified damage from the renter.
Loss Damage Waiver vs. Insurance
A waiver modifies liability in your rental contract — it does not transfer risk to an underwriter.
Damage Waiver (What We Offer)
- A contractual cap on the renter’s financial responsibility for accidental damage.
- You pay a flat Protection Plan Fee; we waive our right to collect up to the cap.
- No insurance license required — it modifies liability in the rental contract.
- Applies only to verified, accidental physical damage during the rental period.
Insurance (Not What We Sell)
- Transfers risk to a formal underwriter or sells third-party coverage.
- Requires a Limited Lines Producer or specialty rental license.
- Uses terms like “policy,” “premium,” and “underwriting.”
- Regulated under state Property & Casualty insurance statutes.

How a Verified Claim Works
Independent third-party inspection keeps damage verification objective.
- 1
Incident Reported
Renter or host reports damage through the SquatchRV app within 24 hours of return.
- 2
Before & After Photos Matched
Time-stamped, geo-located pre- and post-rental photos are compared to confirm the damage is new.
- 3
Independent Inspector Dispatched
A third-party RV/appraisal inspector documents the damage and writes an independent repair estimate.
- 4
Waiver Applied
If the damage is verified as accidental and covered, the renter’s responsibility is capped at the waiver limit.
Key Rules We Follow
To keep this a waiver — and not unlicensed insurance.
Clear Wording
Our rental contract explicitly states the protection is a waiver of liability — not insurance.
No Misrepresentation
We avoid insurance terms like “policy,” “premium,” or “underwriting.” We use Protection Plan Fee, Damage Waiver, and Liability Cap.
Wisconsin Disclosures
Under Wis. Stat. § 344.576, we notify renters that the waiver may duplicate coverage they already hold through personal auto insurance or credit cards.
Two-Estimate Rule
If a renter disputes the damage amount, Wis. Stat. § 344.574(2)(a) allows a second competing repair estimate within two working days.
Physical Damage Only
The waiver covers accidental physical body damage (dents, scratches, broken awnings) — not mechanical failure, normal wear and tear, or intentional abuse.
Exclusions
The waiver is voided for intentional abuse, towing violations, off-road use in prohibited areas, or unauthorized modifications.
